Pluck Lab - Neuropsychology Research

Description
Description
My Lab is focused on neuropsychological research. It was previously based at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) and was part of the Institute of Neurosciences, which I also directed. I left USFQ in December 2019 and the lab will have a virtual, ethereal existence, until I take a new academic position.

Founded in May 2014, the lab has provided research opportunities for numerous research students as well as interns who came for research experience from the USA and Europe. The research focus is primarily behavioral, using established and experimental tests of cognitive and social-cognitive function. However, there has often been an applied aspect of the research, looking particularly at social, clinical, and educational issues. For example, studies of the cognitive abilities of street children and studies of language functioning in homeless adults. Data collected at the lab has been published in journals such as Child Neuropsychology, Applied Neuropsychology: Child, International Journal of Language and Communication Disorders, Trends in Neurosciences and Education, and Psychology & Neuroscience.

At USFQ the lab also organized academic seminars throughout the academic semesters. These ‘Brain Meetings’ brought guest scientists to the Lab to present their research. Over the years we had presenters from many renowned research institutes including. University of Oxford, Harvard University Medical School, University of Geneva, and University of Texas at Dallas, as well as local researchers presenting on a wide range of topics in psychology and brain sciences. A list of all 49 Brain Meetings organized by PluckLab at USFQ can be viewed here.

One line of research followed at the lab while in Ecuador was the development of cognitive and neuropsychological tools. This included adaptation of existing tests for use in Ecuador as well as development of novel tests for use worldwide. In the spirit of open science these tests can be downloaded for free from this website.
